Public Resonance

Yamaha 2011

Public Resonance is a collaboration with Japanese brand Yamaha, allowing a performer to directly connect and literally ‘resonate’ with an audience. By utilising the natural resonance of everyday objects, for example street furniture, existing architecture or even public transport, various vibrations are both created and amplified by this portable percussive tool kit. Public Resonance was inspired by the spontaneity of street performers and the busking community.

Public Resonance was kindly supported by and run in conjunction with Yamaha and the Royal College of Art Design Products department.

Public Resonance

A live performance of Public Resonance system was made in the summer of 2011 on London’s South Bank, an area well known for its buskers and street performers.

The public were invited to experiment with the resonating sounds of street furniture, bikes, railings, stairs and other objects located in situ at the performance site.
